HARDWOOD CARE

  • Regularly vacuum or sweep hardwood floors. Once in a while, clean your floor with the manufacturer's recommended cleaner. Never clean your hardwood floor with water.

  • Clean up spills by blotting immediately with a damp, clean cloth. If spills are sticky or dry, use a mild scrub pad or cloth with the manufacturer's recommended cleaner. If wax or gum should get stuck to your hardwood floor, fill a bag with ice and press it against the material until it crumbles off the wood. If this does not work, pour mineral spirits around, but not on, the area.

  • To prevent damage to your hardwood floor, use felt floor protectors to keep furniture and appliances from indenting or scratching your wood floor. If your hardwood floor should become scratched, products are available to refurbish your floor.

LAMINATE CARE

  • Regularly vacuum, dust mop or damp wipe your laminate floor. Only use cleaning products recommended by your manufacturer. Never wax or polish your laminate floor.

  • Most spills just need to be wiped up. But, if you have tough stains, apply nail polish remover to a cloth and rub the affected area. Harden solid material with ice and then gently scrape off with a dull knife.

  • Products are available to repair your laminate floor should it become scratched or chipped. Call you Pierce salesperson for help.

VINYL CARE

  • Sweep or vacuum regularly. Occasionally wash your floor with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. After cleaning your vinyl floor, keep foot traffic away from the area for at least half an hour.

  • Wipe up spills promptly with a damp cloth or mop. For tougher spills and stains, rub lightly with a cloth dipped in mineral spirits or paint thinner. For stains and spills that are dry or won't wipe up, remove the excess with a dull kitchen knife. To remove the rest, use a clean cloth lightly wetted with lighter fluid.

  • Make sure furniture and appliances have nonstaining floor protectors, such as felt protectors, where they touch the floor. If you use mats to protect your floor, make sure they are colorfast or 100% latex-backed mats.

  • Protect your floor against extreme sunlight and heat.

CERAMIC TILE CARE

  • Wipe or damp-mop your ceramic tile regularly with water or an all-purpose cleaner. Don't use wax, steel wool pads or harsh cleaners to clean your ceramic tile.

  • Most spills just need to be wiped up. But, if you have tough stains, apply nail polish remover to a cloth and rub the affected area. Harden solid material with ice and then gently scrape off with a dull knife.

  • For heavy-duty cleaning of your ceramic floor, use a scouring powder plus a nylon scrubbing pad. For really difficult stains, mop a scouring powder paste over the surface and let stand for about five minutes, then scrub with a brush, rinse and wipe dry.
